Gwangju Seobu Fire Station announced on the 12th that it conducted special training sessions three times from the 10th to the 13th around Geumdangsan Mountain to strengthen the mountain accident response capabilities of rescue team members.
Mountain accidents can occur at any time. According to statistics from the Gwangju 119 Fire Safety Headquarters, the number of mountain accident dispatches by the Gwangju 119 Rescue Team was 333 cases in 2022, showing a steady increase over the past three years compared to 245 cases in 2020 and 265 cases in 2021.
This training was conducted to coincide with the increase in autumn hikers and aimed to enhance the on-site response capabilities of rescue team members through mountain accident type-specific rescue manuals compared to previous accident cases. It also sought to ensure the safety of on-site dispatch personnel responding to various mountain accidents and to identify causes of potential safety accidents at various sites to prevent human casualties. A total of 17 Seobu rescue team members participated in the training.
The training focused on ▲ theoretical education on mountain rescue equipment specifications and usage ▲ training on horizontal rescue and rope-utilized rescue ▲ adherence to and understanding of standard operating procedures at disaster sites.
A fire official stated, "Since the frequency of mountain accidents is high in autumn, we will make every effort to prepare for safety accidents through professional and systematic training."
