Gangnam-gu Daemosan Park Safety Guardians Launch Ceremony

Gangnam-gu Daemosan Park Safety Guardians Launch Ceremony

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held the launch ceremony for the ‘Daemosan Park Safety Guardians’ in front of the Daemosan Management Office at 2 p.m. on the 12th and will conduct joint patrols with the Suseo Police Station.

Due to the recent increase in indiscriminate crimes, anxiety among hiking trail users has risen, as there are fewer CCTVs compared to urban areas. Currently, there are 11 CCTVs installed in Daemosan, 3 in Guryongsan, and 1 in Inreungsan. Although an additional 16 CCTVs will be installed at the main entrances of hiking trails in the first half of next year, the district plans to appoint 35 existing forest maintenance personnel as safety guardians to strengthen patrols and reduce residents’ anxiety.

The safety guardians assist the police in crime prevention activities. The Suseo Police Station oversees security and, together with 12 members of the Gangnam-gu Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, will strengthen patrols of the access routes. The safety guardians are organized into six teams on weekdays and one team on weekends, patrolling the hiking trails daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to ensure the safety of users. They also maintain dense branches around the trails to prevent concealment and blind spots, and regularly check the operation status of CCTVs and emergency bells.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We will strengthen joint patrol activities among civilians, government, and police to protect the safety of hiking trails,” and added, “We will promptly install CCTVs in crime blind spots to protect the precious lives of our residents.”
