On October 6th, Cheongsong County in Gyeongbuk conducted a large-scale tabletop exercise simulating a bioterrorism situation at the Cheongsong Culture and Arts Center Small Theater.
Cheongsong-gun conducted a large-scale simulation exercise for biological terrorism preparedness and response.
Hosted by the Cheongsong County Health and Medical Center and organized by Gyeongbuk Province, this exercise involved local bioterrorism response agencies including health, police, fire, military, and medical institutions. The purpose was to familiarize each agency with their roles during an incident, review the step-by-step response system, strengthen bioterrorism preparedness and response capabilities, and minimize damage in the event of an actual situation.
Notably, this bioterrorism response simulation was conducted after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a scenario-based tabletop exercise (TTX) that involved explanations and discussions of each agency’s response system in the event of an incident.
Furthermore, a simulation video based on the scenario was produced and screened, providing a more immersive training experience. This video can also be used as educational material related to bioterrorism in the future, making it a valuable resource for inter-agency training going forward.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee stated, “We will continue to conduct regular training to strengthen cooperation and response capabilities among related agencies against bioterrorism, doing our best to protect the health and lives of our residents.” She also urged, “In cases such as the suspicious mail terrorism incident that occurred in July this year, we ask residents to immediately report any suspected bioterrorism situations to the police.”
