Elderly Enjoyment Guaranteed by Yeongyang-gun
Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province held the "27th Senior Citizens' Day Ceremony" on the 11th at the Yeongyang Culture and Sports Center.
About 300 people attended the event, including County Governor O Do-chang, County Council Chairman Kim Seok-hyun, An Jae-beom, President of the Korean Senior Citizens Association Yeongyang Branch, executives, heads of senior centers, and heads of organizations and institutions.
The event began with a rhythmic dance performance by the Yeolmae class friends of Yeongyang Daycare Center, followed by performances by the Muchang Silver Youth Dance Team and the Cheonggi Byeoljigi Nanta Club. The program continued with the reading of the Senior Citizens' Pledge, and awards were presented to exemplary seniors who served as role models in the local community and to those who contributed to the promotion of senior welfare.
On this day, the Korean Senior Citizens Association Yeongyang Branch received a commendation from the Governor of Gyeongbuk Province as an exemplary organization. In addition, one person received the Governor's Commendation, four received the County Governor's Commendation, and two received the County Council Chairman's Commendation. Also, a County Governor's Commendation was awarded to seniors with good dental health during the ceremony.
County Governor O Do-chang said, "Yeongyang has been protected by our seniors! Now, Yeongyang will protect the seniors," adding, "We will strive to create conditions that allow seniors to enjoy a healthy and vibrant retirement life and ensure a stable and active old age."
Senior Citizens' Day is a legal commemorative day established in 1997 to preserve the fine customs of respecting the elderly and to raise awareness among the nation and the public about issues concerning seniors. It is observed annually on October 2.
