Icheon-si Selected as the Top City/County in Provincial Lifelong Learning Awards

On the 10th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it was finally selected as the grand prize winner in the city and county category of the Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Learning Awards contest.

Icheon-si Selected as the Top City/County in Provincial Lifelong Learning Awards

Now in its third year, the Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Learning Awards recognize contributors to the lifelong learning culture across 31 cities and counties in the province. Last month, the contest was held in categories for cities/counties, organizations, and individuals, and recently, a selection committee convened to decide the winners.

The evaluation criteria for the city and county category comprehensively assessed whether the projects exemplify the development of lifelong learning in Gyeonggi-do, focusing on project specialization, operation, expansion, and feedback.

Icheon City was designated as a lifelong learning city in 2004, joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2016, and was selected as a city for learning for persons with disabilities in 2021. According to the city, the high evaluation in this round was due to the placement of lifelong education officers in 14 eup, myeon, and dong districts, establishing the 'Itda' model of co-growth between lifelong learning and resident autonomy based on spaces and people.

Mayor Kim Kyung-hee of Icheon said, "Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Icheon City’s designation as a lifelong learning city. I hope this will be an opportunity to reaffirm our status as a lifelong learning city and to take another leap forward as a leader in lifelong learning cities."

The Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Learning Awards ceremony will be held on the 28th of next month at the Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Learning Festival.
