Kim Young-su Aims for 2 Consecutive Wins, Ham Jeong-woo Challenges 2 Consecutive Victories
Im Sung-jae, Cho Woo-young, Jang Yu-bin Join as 'AG Heroes'
The total prize money is 1.5 billion KRW, with the winner's prize being 300 million KRW. This is the Genesis Championship, the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour's highest prize money tournament. It will be held over four days starting from the 12th at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Songdo, Incheon (par 72, 7,471 yards).
Genesis points leader Ham Jeong-woo challenges for a second consecutive win at the Genesis Championship.
The champion will earn the right to participate in the Genesis Scottish Open next year, co-hosted by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. The winner receives 1,300 Genesis points. The Genesis Award winner is granted a bonus prize of 100 million KRW, a vehicle, a five-year Korean Tour exemption, direct qualification to the final stage of the PGA Korn Ferry Tour Q-School, and 16 starts on the DP World Tour.
This is Kim Young-su's attempt at a second consecutive victory. Last year, he won his first career title at this tournament, laying the foundation for winning the season's money title and the Genesis Award. Kim Young-su said, "Since this is the first time in my golf career that I am defending a title, I have high expectations and excitement. Although there is some pressure, I think it will be fun," and expressed confidence, adding, "I have made thorough preparations to compete in the best condition for the most important tournament of this season."
Ham Jeong-woo is aiming for his second consecutive win. He is on an upswing after winning the Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Choi Kyung-ju Invitational last week, his first victory in two years. He currently leads the Genesis Award points (4,861.42 points) and has the lowest average score (70.295 strokes). Ham Jeong-woo said, "This year, I have advanced to the final rounds in all tournaments. I want to give myself a high score for that," and added, "To win the Genesis Award, achieving a good result in this tournament seems most important," showing his determination.
Additionally, the 'heroes' who won the gold medal in the team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games will be participating. The main players are Im Sung-jae, Cho Woo-young, and Jang Yoo-bin. Im Sung-jae famously overcame a 7-stroke deficit on the final day of this tournament in 2019 to claim his first Korean Tour victory. This will be his first domestic tournament in five months since winning the Woori Bank Championship in May. Past champions including Lee Jae-kyung (2021), Kim Tae-hoon (2020), Lee Tae-hee (2018), and Kim Seung-hyuk (2017) are all on the entry list.
