The film "To Her," based on the autobiographical story of a mother with a disability, was invited to the "Jiseok" section of the 28th Busan International Film Festival and met with audiences.
"To Her" depicts the specific difficulties faced by parents with disabled children and their families through various anecdotes over more than ten years. Actress Kim Jae-hwa played Sang-yeon, a confident and competent political reporter, in the film. Sang-yeon gives birth to twins after a long wait, but everything changes after the second child, Ji-woo, is diagnosed with a level 2 developmental disability.
The film leaves a lasting impression by raising questions about the raw reality of prejudiced views surrounding disability and the attitudes toward various situations encountered when Ji-woo enters elementary school.
At a recent audience talk (GV) for the film "To Her" held in Busan, Kim Jae-hwa said, "I am raising children the same age as Jisoo and Ji-woo in the film. During filming, I often thought of my children, and the children I acted with were lovely and cute, so I enjoyed the entire shoot."
"To Her" is a film based on the essay "I Decline, The Neighborhood Fool" by writer Ryu Seung-yeon. Kim Jae-hwa said, "I read the essay thoroughly," and "Writer Ryu gave me a lot of help." She added, "We filmed using the original work as a guideline to satisfy the writer's heartfelt intentions as much as possible."
Kim Jae-hwa also expressed her hope that "'To Her' will be released not only at film festivals but also in theaters so that more audiences can see it."
