Kim Geon-hee Visits Gwangju Design Biennale... "Cultural and Artistic Cooperation with Foreign and Local Governments"

Visiting Exhibition Hall and Experience Programs
Encouragement for Design Industry Professionals

First Lady Kim Keon-hee, wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, visited the Gwangju Design Biennale on the 10th and expressed her commitment to fostering the cultural and artistic sectors.


After touring the exhibition site of the 10th Gwangju Design Biennale at the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall in Gwangju Metropolitan City, First Lady Kim encouraged the organizers and planners of the event.


Since being appointed honorary chairperson of the Korea Visit Year Committee this year, First Lady Kim has been promoting tourism revitalization by visiting various domestic locations such as Seocheon in Chungnam, Gangneung in Gangwon Province, Busan, and Jeju Island.


On this day, First Lady Kim appeared at the event wearing a black jacket with a green handkerchief and a green skirt. Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung, Gwangju Design Biennale General Director Na Geon, and Joo Ki-hwan, chairman of the People Power Party’s Gwangju branch, welcomed her at the venue.

First Lady Kim, along with them, viewed key works including the eco-friendly chair made from sustainable materials called the 'Second Life Chair' and 'ASEAN WAY' by Professor Choi Kyung-ran of Kookmin University, which has been confirmed for exhibition at the 2024 Milan Design Week.


She also observed the 'The Little Curator' experiential learning program linked to the Gwangju Design Biennale, which involved about 20 kindergarten children from Seo-gu, Gwangju.


The Presidential Office stated, "First Lady Kim encouraged the organizers and planners of the event and expressed her commitment to fostering our cultural and artistic sectors as well as cultural and artistic cooperation with foreign and local governments."


The Gwangju Design Biennale is celebrating its 10th edition this year under the theme 'MEET DESIGN,' showcasing works by approximately 1,200 designers and companies from 45 countries worldwide. The event is being held until the 7th of next month at the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall and various locations throughout Gwangju.
