Employed Workers Prefer 'Industrial Safety Engineer' Certification Most
Last year, it was found that one in three candidates for national technical qualifications took the exam for the purpose of 'employment,' and the most taken national technical qualification exam by job seekers was the Forklift Operator Technician.
On the 10th, the Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation, a public institution under the Ministry of Employment and Labor, published the "Basic Statistical Report on National Technical Qualification Examinees," which contains the results of a survey of 2,172,331 respondents out of 2,177,033 candidates who registered for the national technical qualification written exam last year.
Examinees seeking employment and self-development most frequently registered for the forklift operator certification, while those aiming to improve job performance skills or change careers most often applied for the industrial safety engineer certification. According to the report released by the corporation, the primary purpose for candidates registering for the exam was 'employment' at 38.8%, followed by self-development (24.4%) and improvement of job performance ability (13.7%).
Candidates aiming for employment and self-development most frequently registered for the Forklift Operator Technician category, while those seeking to improve job performance ability or change jobs most frequently registered for the Industrial Safety Engineer category.

Among the approximately 2.17 million candidates last year, 37.8% were employed workers, 28.4% were students, and 20.6% were job seekers.
By age group, those in their 20s accounted for the largest share at 37.0%, followed by those in their 30s (19.9%), 40s (15.8%), 50s and above (14.7%), and teens (12.6%). The most common purpose for taking the exam was 'employment' at 38.8%. Respondents also reported taking the exam for 'self-development' and 'improvement of job performance ability' at rates of 24.4% and 13.7%, respectively.
The categories most frequently registered by employed workers were △Industrial Safety Engineer (55,329) △Forklift Operator Technician (45,619) △Electrical Engineer (35,117) △Construction Safety Engineer (29,498).
Job seekers most frequently applied for △Forklift Operator Technician (33,363) △Confectionery Technician (19,755) △Baking Technician (19,234) △Electrical Engineer (18,690) in the national qualification exams.
Students most frequently registered for △Beautician (28,003) △Korean Cuisine Cooking Technician (25,391) △Confectionery Technician (24,074) △Baking Technician (22,480). This is analyzed as a result of many high school students choosing employment over further education and thus taking the national technical qualification exams.
Homemakers registered most for △Korean Cuisine Cooking Technician (16,637) △Beautician - General (8,246) △Beautician - Skin Care (7,273) △Confectionery Technician (6,885).
By grade, the largest number of registrations was for the Technician level at 48.9%, followed by Engineer (30.1%), Industrial Engineer (15.8%), Service (2.9%), Professional Engineer (1.2%), and Master Technician (1.1%).
