Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has filed a complaint with the police regarding the concealment of a drunk driving incident by the Facilities Management Corporation.
On the morning of the 10th, Park Byung-gyu, head of Gwangsan-gu, personally visited the Gwangsan Police Station and submitted a complaint against four individuals, including former headquarters director Kim and team leader Yang of the Facilities Management Corporation.
They were investigated for committing illegal acts such as falsifying official documents to cover up the drunk driving incident of an employee of the corporation.
According to the corporation's regulations, drunk driving is subject to disciplinary action.
It is reported that from 2021 to 2022, during the four rounds of 'driver's license checks' conducted on employees, they excluded the employee who had committed drunk driving.
At the end of last year, they accidentally conducted a driver's license check on the employee in question, and when another official police response document arrived, they ordered it to be deleted.
However, when the person in charge did not follow this order, they went as far as deleting the official document themselves.
The district decided to take criminal action considering the seriousness and gravity of the case, as some executives and employees of the corporation systematically concealed the criminal facts.
At a press conference held that day, District Head Park pointed out, "It is absolutely unacceptable that executives and employees of a local public enterprise, who are required to have high morality and responsibility, have systematically concealed a specific individual's drunk driving incident for nearly two years and shamelessly deleted official documents to cover it up."
He added, "We define this as a serious corruption act that turned the corporation, which should prioritize citizens, into a lawless place and privatized it."
Park emphasized, "It is outrageous that a person who received a prison sentence (8 months imprisonment, 2 years probation) in the first trial for violating the Public Official Election Act in October 2018 was promoted as if it were natural, and that the corporation is suffering from cartel-like line-ups and factionalism that should never happen, and we can no longer overlook this reality."
He continued, "Starting with this complaint, we will do everything possible to help the Facilities Management Corporation be reborn as a public enterprise trusted by citizens."
