National Namdo Gugak Center Invites Primitive Music Group 'Ide' for Special Performance

The Meeting of Traditional Music and Western Rhythms... Satisfying the Thrill Instinct with Gugak

The National Namdo Gugak Center announced on the 10th that it will hold a special performance of the primal music group Ide titled ‘Bon Voyage’ at 3 p.m. on the 14th in the Grand Theater Jinakdang (Jindo, Jeollanam-do).

Primal music group Ide is an ensemble formed to express instinct through Gugak (Korean traditional music) performances. Based on Korean traditional music elements such as jangdan (rhythmic patterns), breathing, and sigimsae (ornamentation), they combine Western rhythms and modes to present performances that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy.

The title of this performance, ‘Bon Voyage,’ means “Have a pleasant journey” and is prepared with the theme of a musical journey departing together with Ide.

Starting with ‘Festa,’ which signals a new beginning, the performance delivers intense sounds through pieces such as ‘Wolsan,’ which captures the preciousness of everyday life, and ‘Ah,’ ‘Sanyeombul,’ ‘Yeombul Arari,’ ‘Manjamo,’ and ‘Cheongcheon,’ which express the feelings of leaving a beloved city.

Next, the lively singing portrays a port city in ‘Nanani,’ and finally, ‘Oil King’ expresses the fantastic oil road stretching from the Arabian Peninsula, Morocco, Egypt, to Europe.

Meanwhile, a new exhibition space has been created in the lobby of Jinakdang this year. This space offers an experience of Gugak instrument exhibitions using cutting-edge IT techniques, engaging immersive exhibition content, and listening to Gugak instrument sound sources. Visitors can enjoy performances, exhibitions, and hands-on experiences all in one place free of charge.

The performance is free, and a free shuttle bus service between Jindo town and the Gugak Center is provided before and after the performance. Additionally, a performance stamp coupon event will be held until December for visitors, offering small souvenirs to participants. Detailed information about the performance can be found on the National Namdo Gugak Center website or by phone.
