'Daegu Collection' Invites Famous Fashion Designers ... Cheon Sangdu, Choi Bokho, Chang Shaoqiu

Daegu City and the Daegu·Gyeongbuk Fashion Business Cooperative will hold the “34th Daegu Collection” from the 11th to the 13th for three days at the Fashion Design Development Support Center in Sangyeok-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, inviting famous domestic and international designers.

Through this collection, they plan to present the next season trends of local fashion designer brands, build a global network through mutual exchanges and invitations of overseas designers, and strengthen their status as a leading collection in Asia.

The Daegu Collection, which started its first event in 1989, is the longest-running fashion designer collection in Korea, boasting tradition and prestige as it marks its 34th edition this year.

Looking at the designers who have participated in past Daegu Collections, it can be confirmed that designers representing the region and Korea, such as Jeon Sang-jin, Kim Woo-jong, Park Dong-jun, Kim Sun-ja, Lee Eung-do, and Andre Kim, have all been part of it.

This collection consists of a total of nine shows over three days, featuring six local designer brands’ solo and joint shows, designers from Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, and invited designers representing Dalian, China, and Osaka, Japan, showcasing the 2024 season trends as a leading collection in Asia.

Since 2014, the Daegu·Gyeongbuk Fashion Business Cooperative has signed MOUs with the Fashion Clothing Association of Dalian, China, and the Kansai Fashion Association of Osaka, Japan, aiming for fashion exchanges among representative fashion cities of each country. During the collection, designers from these cities are invited. To promote domestic fashion exchange, designers from Seoul (Lee Cheong-cheong/LIE) and Gyeonggi (Kim Yoon-jae, Lee Ji-hyun/NEW WAVE BOYS) are invited to provide local fashion majors and fashion industry professionals with opportunities to view domestic and international designer collections.

The three-day glamorous collection will begin with the opening fashion show by Jeonggyeong Apparel (designer Gu Jeong-il) on the first day. Designer Choi Bok-ho of C&Boco, a representative local designer celebrating his 50th anniversary this year, will present the collection under the concept “50 Years of Journey, and a New Beginning.” Theme 1 is “Sustainability in Fashion,” completed with recycled PET bottle materials detailed with Korean motifs, and Theme 2 is “Hallyu-linked Collaboration,” showcasing a new image of the Korean Wave through collaboration with influencer Park Se-jung and model-tainer Hana-ryeong.

Also, Innocence designer Cheon Sang-du, who pursues traditional haute couture, said, “Inspired by memories of my mother’s wardrobe in the past, I focused on presenting a future-oriented trend through a modern reinterpretation of retro,” and will showcase various performances.

Additionally, the invited Chinese designer Chang Xiaoqiu expressed, “It is a great honor to be invited to participate in Korea again after three years since the end of COVID-19. The concept of this collection is the fusion of traditional Chinese culture and modernity. We plan to present a joint show of the three brands we currently operate. Our company is making great efforts to nurture and grow new brands. Through this Daegu Collection, we want to show many customers the diversity of Chinese fashion culture. We are once again grateful for the invitation to the Daegu Collection, which has a long tradition and history.”

Kwon Yong-ik, head of the Textile Fashion Division of Daegu City, said, “I hope this Daegu Collection will be an opportunity to raise the external recognition of local fashion brands and widely promote its status as a collection representing the Asian region.”
