Following the initial expansion from 2 to 10 locations in September, it will be further extended to the entire Seongdong-gu in October... Including CCTV blind spots, mountainous parks, riversides, alleys, and redevelopment areas
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has expanded the "Trail Crime Prevention System," initially operated for mountain-type parks nationwide, to 10 locations and plans to extend it throughout Seongdong-gu in October.
Seongdong-gu received positive feedback from residents during the pilot operation of the "Trail Crime Prevention System," introduced at the end of August. Along with increased expectations for crime prevention, the service area was expanded from the existing trails to the urban area.
In the first phase, Seongdong-gu increased the number of locations with the Trail Crime Prevention System from 2 to 10 in September. The district attached QR code information signs and banners at a total of 123 points to make it easily accessible to everyone.
The usage is simple. By scanning the QR code placed at the park entrance, a personal smartphone transforms into a "portable CCTV," linked to Seongdong-gu Office’s Smart City Integrated Operation Center, allowing real-time response in case of dangerous situations.
In an emergency, pressing the "Emergency Report" button on the smartphone screen immediately sends an alert to the Smart City Integrated Operation Center of Seongdong-gu Office, which can then notify the police and other related agencies for cooperation.
The first phase expansion mainly targeted blind spots of closed-circuit television (CCTV), dark alleys, redevelopment construction sites, and riverside embankments. By type, these include ▲4 mountain-type parks (Eungbongsan, Maebongsan, Dalmaji Park, Muhakbong) ▲1 riverside embankment (Songjeong Embankment and nearby Jungnangcheon Riverside) ▲1 alley in Wangsimni Doseondong shopping district ▲1 Seongsu Strategic Maintenance Area.
From October, the district plans to further investigate crime-prone areas such as school routes and high-risk zones to expand the service area throughout Seongdong-gu. A district official stated, "The ultimate goal is to create a safe Seongdong-gu free from crime by alleviating residents' anxiety and reducing safety blind spots."
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "The effectiveness of the 'Trail Crime Prevention System' was sufficiently confirmed through the pilot operation," and added, "We will continue to strive for residents' safety and crime prevention."
