Buldo Could Not Burn His Dream... Boy with Fourth-Degree Burns Became a Police Officer

Appointed as Honorary Police Officer of Texas State

An American young man who suffered severe burns on 80% of his body at the age of 2 has become the police officer he dreamed of.

On the 7th (local time), British Daily Mail and other foreign media reported on Zaid Garcia (19), who was recently appointed as an honorary police officer in Texas.

Garcia suffered severe burns on his entire body at the age of 2. A candle fell onto his blanket while he was sleeping. He lost not only his skin but also both hands, toes, eyes, and face.

He suffered fourth-degree burns from the accident and was transferred from Mexico to San Antonio, Texas, USA for treatment, but doctors at the time said, "The chances of survival are almost none."

Fourth-degree burns mean damage to the entire dermis layer as well as muscles and bones. There is no pain or sensation.

However, Garcia did not give up. Despite the low chances, he endured multiple surgeries.

His eyes were also severely burned, and he underwent treatment to cover his eyes with skin. This was a prescription to prevent further deterioration of his eye condition.

Because he could not see, he enrolled in a school for the visually impaired. In 2019, a fundraiser was held to restore his eyesight. Nearly 500 million won was raised from around the world and used for medical expenses.

Garcia is known to hope for eyelid reconstruction and vision restoration surgery.

Hearing that he dreamed of becoming a police officer despite losing both hands and all ten toes, the Texas police appointed him as an honorary police officer.

Police officers from the Houston Police Department gifted Garcia a children's police uniform. Also, Troy Pinner, the police chief, presented Garcia with an official certificate recognizing him as an honorary member.
