Assemblyman Jeong Pil-mo Analyzes KCC Status Data
This Year, 929 Correction Requests for DC Inside
DC Inside and Ilgan Best have been identified as the internet sites where discriminatory and derogatory expressions are most prevalent.
On the 9th, Jeong Pil-mo, a member of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, analyzed and announced data on correction requests for discriminatory and derogatory information by major portals and platforms, which was submitted by the Korea Communications Standards Commission.
According to the data, from 2019 until last August, DC Inside (2,622 cases) and Ilgan Best (1,474 cases) received a total of 4,096 correction requests, accounting for 87% of the total (4,735 cases).
The total number of correction requests for discriminatory and derogatory information this year has already surpassed last year's total (1,222 cases), reaching 1,326 cases as of August.
In particular, DC Inside recorded 929 cases as of August this year, which is more than three times the number recorded by Ilgan Best (306 cases), the second highest.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission can take measures such as deletion or access blocking for discriminatory and derogatory expressions that promote hatred based on gender, region, race/nationality, disability, age, and so on. For information distributed domestically, 'deletion of the relevant information' is enforced, while for information distributed overseas, 'access blocking' is applied.
Assemblyman Jeong expressed concern, stating, "Discriminatory and derogatory expressions online can cause conflicts and divisions in our society and can also harm the honor and dignity of specific groups."
