Paying Respects at National Seoul Memorial Cemetery as First Schedule
Newly appointed Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon paid a visit to the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul on the 7th to pay respects. This was the first schedule following President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval of his appointment. He offered flowers and incense to the patriotic martyrs and war heroes. After a moment of silence at the Memorial Tower, he wrote in the guestbook, "Honoring the will of the patriotic martyrs! Bringing hope and comfort to the people through culture...!"
Minister Yoo previously served as the inaugural Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism during the Lee Myung-bak administration, holding the position for about three years from 2008 to 2011. He achieved accomplishments such as strengthening copyright protection, establishing the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Seoul Branch and the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, and reorganizing the cultural and artistic support system. Known for his hands-on approach, he was called a 'field-oriented' minister. He was once again nominated as the minister of the same department on the 13th of last month. A confirmation hearing was held on the 5th, and the day before, a confirmation hearing report including a 'disqualification' opinion was adopted by bipartisan agreement.
Minister Yoo, who will once again oversee culture, sports, and tourism policies, will attend the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's parliamentary audit on the 10th. His inauguration ceremony will be held on the 11th at the Ministry's Sejong Government Complex.
