Actor Park Sung-woong Appointed as Ambassador for 'Mungyeong Gaeun Film Festival' Promotion

Mungyeong City has appointed South Korean actor Park Sung-woong as the ambassador for the ‘2023 Mungyeong Gaeun Film Festival,’ which will be held from the 13th to the 15th.

Mungyeong City stated that the Mungyeong Gaeun Film Festival, held for the first time this year, resembles the long and arduous time miners spent in tunnels pursuing their dreams, much like actor Park Sung-woong’s acting career and dreams, who never gave up despite a long period of obscurity. Therefore, they decided to appoint Park Sung-woong as the festival ambassador.

Since debuting in the 1997 film ‘Number 3,’ actor Park Sung-woong has been active across both the big and small screens with works such as ‘The Dude in Me,’ ‘OK Madam,’ ‘New World,’ and ‘Life on Mars.’ Recently, he has been receiving viewers’ love for his outstanding acting skills in the drama ‘National Death Vote.’

The ambassador appointment ceremony will take place at 5:30 PM on the 13th during the film festival’s opening ceremony. The opening ceremony will be hosted by comedian Park So-young and will feature congratulatory performances by jazz vocalist Woong San and Nam Kyung-joo and Friends. The opening film will be ‘October Sky,’ set in the 1950s Cold War-era coal mining town of Coalwood, USA, telling the story of a father who wishes his son to become a miner and a son whose dream is to build rockets.

The 2023 Mungyeong Gaeun Film Festival will be held in the Gaeun-eup area of Mungyeong City, Gyeongbuk, where the Eunseong Coal Mine operated from 1938 to 1994, as well as at Mungyeong Eco World. Gaeun-eup is a special place where one can talk about the past mining culture, the present ecology and environment, and dreams for the future.
