Last Year's Local Election 20.62%
The early voting rate for the by-election of the mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, recorded the highest figure ever among all local elections and by-elections.
According to the National Election Commission on the 7th, as a result of early voting conducted over two days from the previous day to this day, 113,313 out of a total of 500,603 registered voters participated, resulting in a final turnout rate of 22.64%.
This is the highest early voting rate ever recorded among by-elections and local elections. The highest early voting rate in previous by-elections was 20.54% in the April 7, 2021 by-election. The highest early voting rate in local elections was 20.62% during the June 1, 2022 local elections.
It also surpassed the early voting rate of Gangseo-gu (21.45%) during the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election.
However, it did not exceed the highest rates when expanded to other nationwide elections. The early voting rate for the 20th presidential election in March last year was 36.93%, and the general election recorded 26.69% during the 21st general election in 2020.
This by-election was held only in Gangseo-gu nationwide, with early voting stations operated only within Gangseo-gu.
