Likely to Request Support Emphasizing 'Regime Judgment Theory'... Returning to Hospital After Campaigning

The Democratic Party announced that Lee will attend the focused campaign rally for candidate Jin held at Magok Square in Gangseo District at 2 p.m. that day, along with floor leader Hong Ik-pyo and others. Since the Democratic Party has defined this election as a referendum on the current administration, Lee is expected to urge voters to support candidate Jin to stop the Yoon Seok-yeol government's unilateral actions. Additionally, he is likely to encourage active participation in early voting, which closes at 6 p.m. that day.

The day before, Lee came to the National Assembly to participate in the vote on the agreement to designate the special prosecutor law for the 'Marine Corps Corporal Chae's Death Incident Investigation' as a fast-track bill, and said, "I hope many people participate in the by-election to show the public sentiment and the will of the people."

Initially, there was speculation in political circles that Lee would be discharged from the hospital this week to fully return to party affairs in order to support the Gangseo District mayoral by-election. However, his discharge was postponed based on medical staff's judgment that he had not fully recovered from the aftereffects of fasting. Nevertheless, as both ruling and opposition parties are engaged in an all-out battle in this election, which serves as a preliminary contest for next year's general parliamentary election, internal demands for support have increased, leading to his sudden decision to join the campaign.

It is expected to take more time for Lee to fully recover his condition and completely return to party affairs. The Democratic Party stated that after the campaign, Lee will return to the Green Hospital in Jungnang District, Seoul, where he is currently hospitalized.
