The Seoul Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) Youth Culture Festival ‘Gangchu’ is set to fill the autumn weekends with the passion of teenagers. Gangchu stands for ‘Strongly Recommend Gangbuk-gu Youth Culture Festival’ and will be held on the 28th from 1 PM to 6 PM at the park in front of Gangbuk-gu Office and other locations.
This youth culture festival is organized by the district to provide young people with opportunities to freely showcase their talents and passions, and to present the value and culture of youth to all generations. It is a large-scale event unique to Gangbuk-gu, attended by about 1,000 youths and local residents every year.
This year, many youths will have the chance to demonstrate their skills through dance and music competitions as well as a UCC video contest. The celebration performances will feature singer Jung Se-woon and rapper Mirani, promising a spectacular stage.
The competitions are open to all youths aged 19 or younger who reside in Gangbuk-gu or attend elementary, middle, high, or special schools located in the district.
Youths interested in the dance and music competitions can prepare K-pop cover dance, hip-hop dance, solo dance or singing, band, or free instrument performances and apply through the Gangchu website by the 16th. The preliminary round will be held on the 22nd, and the finals and awards ceremony will take place on the festival day on stage.
The UCC video contest is divided into video and shorts categories. Participants can freely choose their themes and submit videos up to 10 minutes or shorts up to 1 minute by the 18th via the Gangchu website. The district will conduct a first-round online popularity survey and select the final winners through evaluation by professional judges by the 26th.
At the awards ceremony, five winners (teams) each in the dance and music categories and nine winners (teams) in the UCC category will receive the Gangbuk-gu Mayor’s Award, including grand prize, excellence award, encouragement award, and popularity award.
Additionally, the festival will feature various experiential cultural zones for youth. There will be a Fourth Industrial Revolution Special Zone where participants can experience AI, VR·AR, and robots, as well as booths for making dalgona candy, cotton candy, CPR training, face painting, and more, adding to the festival’s fun.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “The ‘Gangchu’ youth culture festival in Gangbuk-gu is a place for empathy and communication between generations. I hope young people will freely show their talents and abilities.” She added, “We will continue to provide support and encouragement for the growth of youths. We ask for the interest of Gangbuk-gu citizens in supporting the youths, who are the future of our country.”
