Recognition of the Potential for Autonomous Flight Drone Technology in Defense Applications
Autonomous flight drone solution startup NearsLab announced on the 5th that it has been selected as one of the '100 Defense Innovation Companies.' The 100 Defense Innovation Companies project supports and fosters excellent small and venture companies in the advanced defense strategic industry sector, providing support to a total of 100 companies over five years. Following the selection of 18 companies last year, 17 companies were selected this year. NearsLab will receive various supports including management consulting, defense specialized personnel and facility funds, R&D funds, and participation in offset trade.
NearsLab's autonomous flight drone technology is evaluated as an effective alternative that can reduce the operational burden on soldiers in increasingly complex future battlefield environments and solve the problem of military personnel reduction due to the demographic cliff. In particular, it enables autonomous flight even in indoor and underground spaces without GPS signals or in signal jamming zones, making it highly applicable for military use. Accordingly, NearsLab was also selected as a partner company of the Defense Venture Center last May.
Choi Jae-hyuk, CEO of NearsLab, said, "Being selected as one of the 100 Defense Innovation Companies recognizes the military applicability of autonomous flight drone technology," and added, "NearsLab, which was responsible for safety inspections worldwide, hopes to contribute to the security of the Republic of Korea in the future."
