Seoul National University Dental Hospital Hosts Oral BioBank Network Symposium

The Human Biospecimen Bank at Seoul National University Dental Hospital held the "14th Oral Biobank Network Joint Symposium" via a non-face-to-face video conference at 5 p.m. on the 4th.

The symposium, conducted through a non-face-to-face video conference, was attended by Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Yonsei University Dental Hospital, Sagwanamu Dental Hospital, and Pusan National University Dental Hospital. The participating institutions are partner banks involved in the 4th phase (2021?2025) of the Human Biospecimen Bank Specialization Support Project led by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. These partner banks discover, collect, and store various high-quality oral human biospecimens such as teeth, saliva, and blood. Seoul National University Dental Hospital, as the central bank, has been operating the symposium since 2021 to form an oral biobank network among the partner banks.

The symposium proceeded with a presentation and Q&A session by Dr. Inseong Hwang, Director of Dax Medioral Biome, followed by discussions on the operation of the oral biobank network. Director Hwang gave a lecture on the donation procedures of human biospecimens from external institutions.

Professor Sunyoung Kim, Head of the Human Biospecimen Bank at Seoul National University Dental Hospital (Department of Conservative Dentistry), stated, "Including this 14th symposium, we were able to strengthen the network among partner banks and seek substantial operation of the oral biobank through a total of four events this year." She added, "We will continue to strive to secure high-quality oral-derived human biospecimens through close cooperation among partner banks and further contribute to the advancement of dental science through various research activities."

Meanwhile, Seoul National University Dental Hospital was selected as the central bank for the 4th phase of the Human Biospecimen Bank Specialization Support Project by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency in March 2021.
