Busan City Holds the 44th Busan Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony

Commemorating the 431st Anniversary of the Battle of Busan Port Victory, Citizen Awards

On the 5th at 10 a.m., Busan City will hold the '44th Busan Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony' at the City Hall Auditorium to celebrate the 431st anniversary of the Busan Port Battle victory.

The ceremony will be attended by about 700 people, including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, City Council Chairman Ahn Seong-min, Superintendent of Education Ha Yun-su, key institution heads, civic groups, and Busan citizens. The event will feature ▲ the awarding of the Proud Citizen Award ▲ cultural performances expressing hopes for hosting the 2030 World Expo.


The ceremony will begin with a commemorative speech by Mayor Park Hyung-jun, followed by congratulatory remarks from City Council Chairman Ahn Seong-min and Superintendent of Education Ha Yun-su.


To express the hopes of Busan citizens for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo, the Busan Municipal Art Troupe will perform 'Song of Toast,' and the Angel Peace Art Troupe will perform 'Arirang,' 'Hand in Hand,' and the 'Expo Song.'


At the Proud Citizen Award ceremony, Mayor Park Hyung-jun will personally present awards to the seven recipients selected this year. Now in its 39th year, the Proud Citizen Award is an honorable award given to citizens who have practiced the spirit of dedication, service, and sacrifice for the development of the local community and the happiness of citizens.


The awardees are ▲ Grand Prize: Lee Hee-sook, CEO of Wonjo Kongnamul Bibimbap ▲ Main Prize in the Patriotism category: Kang In-jung, CEO of Busan Hoejip; Encouragement Prize: Lee Jin-su, CEO of Raum Palace ▲ Main Prize in the Service category: Kim Moo-sung, Professor at Busan Baek Hospital; Encouragement Prize: Son Ki-chan, Director of Dadae Dental Clinic ▲ Main Prize in the Sacrifice category: Corporal Park Chan-il of the 53rd Infantry Division; Encouragement Prize: Seo Jin-wook, Nurse at Busan Baek Hospital.


Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, "No matter how economically developed our Busan becomes, if neighbors do not form relationships where they care for and look after each other, it would feel empty. Compassion for one another and good relationships among citizens are the core elements that make Busan a city where people want to live again." He expressed sincere gratitude to the award recipients and added, "Besides the awardees, many citizens are doing their best in their respective places for Busan and their neighbors. Thanks to them, Busan exists today and holds hope for the future." He also extended his thanks to the citizens of Busan.


The mayor emphasized, "Large-scale issues such as the early opening of Gadeokdo New Airport and the relocation of the Industrial Bank to Busan are being resolved smoothly one by one, and corporate investment in Busan has increased more than 16 times compared to three years ago. At this moment, Busan's status is changing once again." He added, "While leading Busan as a global hub city, we will also devote all our efforts to warmly care for even one citizen who is suffering or facing difficulties, and we will always stand behind the citizens."


Before the ceremony, at 9 a.m., Mayor Park Hyung-jun and about 30 key institution heads and organization leaders will visit Chungnyeolsa Shrine to pay tribute to the patriotic ancestors.
