Songpa-gu Youth Art Festival 'Yaho Festival' Held

This weekend, a vibrant stage prepared by young artists from Songpa-gu will unfold against the backdrop of Seokchon Lake, imbued with the essence of autumn.

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold the Songpa Young Artists Festival, ‘YAHO (Young Artists’ HOsu festival),’ during the four-day holiday from the 6th to the 9th.

The YAHO Festival is planned and participated in directly by the ‘Young Artists Working Group,’ consisting of 23 young artists. Considering that over 60% of all artists active in Songpa-gu are young artists but have limited opportunities to showcase their work, the district has been providing this platform since last year.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “This event is an opportunity to enjoy and confirm the various results of Songpa-gu’s efforts to incubate young artists over the past year. It offers not only high-quality exhibitions and performances but also opportunities for the audience to directly experience art, moving beyond a festival that is simply for viewing.”

Since the 8th term of the local government, the district has been making new attempts to nurture and support young artists. These include hosting ‘The Impact,’ a relay series of solo concerts planned by young musicians; opening the ‘Young Artist Center,’ which provides work and exhibition spaces for young artists; and holding curated exhibitions by young artists at the cultural experimental space Hosu.

This festival, reflecting the concerns and efforts of young artists active in various genres, will be held mainly through ▲ exhibitions ▲ performances ▲ film screenings ▲ and side events.

First, the outdoor exhibition ‘Works in Picture Books’ is prepared by young artists from Songpa-gu. Throughout the festival, the grassy steps of the Dongho area of Seokchon Lake will be decorated with books and illustrations, offering residents an artistic resting experience with the lake as a backdrop. In connection with the exhibition, a book talk will be held featuring Jeong Eun-hye, a caricature artist and actor known for , and young artists from ‘Observing Someone Else’s Romance’.

The waterfront deck in front of Dongho at Seokchon Lake will transform into a ‘Live Drawing Show’ stage. Han Hae-dong, an artist famous for graffiti works, will draw on a large canvas, showcasing the process of completing his artwork. The drawing show will take place on the 7th from 3 PM to 8 PM.

The main performances will be held on the 6th and 7th from 5 PM to 9 PM at the waterfront stage of Dongho, Seokchon Lake. The first day features rock music, and the second day continues with EDM and dance team performances, adding to the festival’s excitement. Throughout the event, visitors can enjoy various busking stages by over 50 young musician teams at different spots around Seokchon Lake.

A special time to experience diverse films by young directors against the autumn night lake backdrop is also prepared. On the 8th, from 6:30 PM for about three hours, seven short films by young directors?including animation, musicals, and feature films?will be screened at the waterfront stage of Dongho, Seokchon Lake. A ‘Talk with the Directors’ session will also be held to engage the audience in discussions about the films.

Additionally, installation art where residents can paint directly on the ‘YAHO’ structure, workshops to create exhibition goods, and an art market promoting works by young artists will be prepared to add more fun to the festival.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “We hope you visit the ‘YAHO Festival’ to show great interest and support for young artists and create unforgettable memories in Songpa as autumn deepens.”
