Nowon-gu Youth Receive Customized Housing Education

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate a practical housing education program for local youth called "Living as a Youth for the First Time" to support their real-life independence.

The education topics include ▲Understanding city and district policies and types of public rental housing ▲How to read real estate-related documents ▲Housing finance knowledge for youth and newlyweds ▲Simple home repair training (2 sessions), each session lasting about 2 hours from 7 PM to 9 PM.

Looking at the detailed program schedule, the first day on October 11 will cover the topic "Understanding City and District Housing Policies and Types of Public Rental Housing." Joo Eun Lee, head of the Housing Counseling Office at the Nowon Housing Safety Comprehensive Center, will serve as the instructor, providing information on Seoul and Nowon-gu’s housing policies, types of public rental housing, and their current status.

On October 18, Park Dong-su, president of the Seoul Tenants Association, will conduct a session on "How to Read Real Estate-Related Documents." Participants will start by learning how to read basic real estate documents such as building registers and certified copies of property registers, then move on to contract drafting theory, and practice filling out the "Standard Residential Lease Contract" used in actual transactions. The district expects that this combined theoretical and practical education will enhance young tenants’ understanding of their housing rights and help prevent the rapidly increasing cases of lease fraud.

On October 24, Choi Hwan-hee, director of the Youth Financial Education Research Institute, will provide information on "Financial Knowledge for Youth and Newlyweds."

In addition to theoretical education, the district has prepared practical, hands-on training. On November 1, during the "Simple Home Repair Training," Yang Jin-young, CEO of Daily Space, will teach 15 youths how to use power tools and practice replacing lights and switches. The final session on November 6 will involve practical training on replacing bathroom sink faucets and drains.

This education program runs once a week for five weeks from October 11 to November 6 and is open to any youth living or active in Nowon-gu. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Youths wishing to participate can apply online by visiting the Nowon-gu Office website’s Communication and Participation section.

Oh Seung-rok, mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "Housing issues, along with jobs, are the biggest concerns for young people. We have prepared customized housing education to help stabilize youth housing, and we hope it will be very helpful in their daily lives."
