What Gift Will Lee Suhee, Gangdong-gu Mayor, Present to Seniors with Respect?

Gangdong-gu Holds Senior Festival for Senior Citizens' Month... 'Energetic Gangdong Together! Proud Senior Festival' with Nostalgic Concert and Exhibition

What Gift Will Lee Suhee, Gangdong-gu Mayor, Present to Seniors with Respect? Isuhee Lee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu (left), is presenting a gift of appreciation to an elderly person at last year's event.

Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced that it will hold the 'Energetic Gangdong Together! Proud Senior Festival' to provide enjoyable moments for the elderly and express respect in celebration of the Month of the Elderly and Senior Citizens Day (October 2nd).

On the 6th at 2 p.m., the district will host the 'Thankful孝! Senior Memory Concert' at the Gangdong-gu Community Center, featuring performances by singers from the 1980s under the theme 'That Time, That Song: A Concert of Memories.' Interactive performances using glow sticks and other unique leisure activities are prepared to offer joyful memories to the seniors.

During the event, a commendation ceremony will be held to honor 51 individuals, including seniors who have contributed to the promotion of senior welfare in Gangdong-gu, as well as residents and organizations, expressing gratitude for their service.

Additionally, on the 6th and 7th, an 'Exhibition of Senior Works' will be held in the first-floor exhibition hall of the Gangdong-gu Community Center, showcasing artworks such as paintings and calligraphy created by the seniors themselves. The district expects this exhibition to allow seniors to proudly display their honed skills, enhancing their sense of achievement and self-esteem.

The festival commemorating the Month of the Elderly has also received support from the local community. Dallyeora Hospital sponsored commemorative towels, Seoul Yang Hospital provided masks, and Tuminjikyoo donated knee and ankle braces, adding meaningful support. These sponsored items will be assembled into appreciation packages and distributed to seniors participating in the event on the 6th.

Since the event involves senior participants, the district is ensuring perfect safety measures. Safety management manuals for various emergencies such as fires have been established, and safety facility inspections and hazardous material removals at the venue are underway. On the day of the event, 40 safety personnel will be deployed to prevent accidents involving seniors and to respond promptly in case of emergencies.

Going forward, commemorative events will also be held at the Gangdong-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, Gangdong Senior Welfare Center, Haegong Senior Welfare Center, and Seonggajeong Senior Welfare Center. From the 18th to the 27th, 18 community centers in the district will sequentially hold events to express gratitude and respect toward the elderly.

Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “October, the Month of the Elderly, holds the meaning of gratitude for the hard work of our seniors who laid the foundation of our society,” adding, “I hope this festival will help spread a culture of respect for seniors and become an opportunity for them to feel pride.”
