'Jungnang Masil' Listening to Residents' Stories and Communicating, 198th Session Held at Desiang Chaegulteo Small Library
About 20 Participants Including Library Operators and Users
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held the 198th Jungnang Masil at the Desiang Chaekulteo Small Library on the 4th.
Jungnang Masil is a communication space where the mayor approaches residents comfortably like visiting the neighborhood and has open and honest conversations. It is conducted in a format where the voices of the residents are listened to on-site and questions are answered immediately.
This Jungnang Masil was held with about 20 people, including the library staff and users, at the Desiang Chaekulteo Small Library, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
A small library is a library that provides knowledge, information, and various cultures to local residents in various areas, with a smaller collection compared to public libraries. Currently, there are 54 small libraries in the district.
The Desiang Chaekulteo Small Library is located within an apartment complex, making it convenient for residents and nearby neighbors to use. It not only has a large collection of books but also operates interlibrary loan services with other libraries, making it one of the exemplary cases.
On this day, Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi listened to the difficulties of the small library staff and the impressions of the residents using the library, and discussed areas that need more effort to create a book-reading Jungnang.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “It was a meaningful time to directly hear the stories of residents who always enjoy being close to books and to communicate together. We will continue to prepare various programs with small libraries so that more residents can share the joy of reading books.”
The district is steadily promoting the ‘Book-Reading Jungnang’ project and various reading-related initiatives. Representative projects include ‘Reading 1,000 Books Before School’ and ‘Reading 1,000 Books in Elementary School’ to cultivate children’s reading habits. In addition, the district is increasing the number of public libraries so residents can easily borrow and read books nearby, and is also supporting public and private small libraries in the area.
