Job Postings Mentioning 'AI' Worldwide Increase 2.2 Times in Two Years

Will artificial intelligence (AI) take away my job? The answer to this question is not yet clear, but it is certain that AI is already having a significant impact on the labor market. On the recruitment platform LinkedIn, job postings related to AI or generative AI have more than doubled in the past two years.

On the 4th (local time), economic media CNBC cited LinkedIn data and reported that from July 2021 to July this year, job postings mentioning AI or generative AI on the platform increased 2.2 times worldwide. In some countries such as France, this growth rate exceeded the global average. France and Germany recorded increases of 2.8 times and 2.6 times respectively. The UK saw a 2.3-fold increase.

Olivier Sabella, Vice President of LinkedIn’s EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and LATAM (Latin America) regions, stated, "Demand for AI technology is expanding across a wide range of industries and regions." He added that related job postings vary widely, from experts directly involved in AI development such as AI engineers to digital product managers and cybersecurity consultants who require AI technology.

Workers are also increasingly accepting these AI-driven changes in the labor market. According to LinkedIn’s global talent trends report released this month, job postings mentioning AI or generative AI over the past two years saw a 17% higher increase in applications compared to postings without such mentions.

According to a recent survey conducted by LinkedIn among its members, 57% of respondents said they want to learn more about AI. The number of members indicating that they can use AI-based tools or products is also steadily increasing. Vice President Sabella explained, "Since the launch of ChatGPT, the number of members who have added AI-related skills to their profiles has nearly doubled," adding, "Since early 2016, it has increased ninefold." He added, "As the work environment changes and expectations and requirements for jobs evolve, acquiring AI skills is important."
