Sacheon Mayor Park Dongsik Urges National Assembly to Pass the 'Space Aviation Agency Special Act'

"It must not be postponed any longer"

Park Dongsik, Mayor of Sacheon City, Gyeongnam, urged the normal convening of the agenda coordination committee reviewing the Special Act on the Space and Aviation Agency and the prompt passage of the Special Act on the Space and Aviation Agency.

At a press conference held on the 4th at the city hall briefing room, Mayor Park emphasized, "The establishment of the Space and Aviation Agency is being promoted with the support of the public, but unfortunately, the Special Act on the Space and Aviation Agency submitted to the National Assembly last April is still pending in the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee."

He added, "The committee is conducting deliberations through the agenda coordination committee to reach a conclusion on the enactment of the special law, but the final deliberation originally scheduled for September 25 was postponed to October 5," raising his voice.

Mayor Park Dong-sik is holding a press conference urging the National Assembly to pass the 'Space Aviation Agency Special Act.'

He also stated, "To pass the Special Act on the Space and Aviation Agency, a grand decision beyond vested interests and political issues is necessary," and claimed, "The golden time for establishing a dedicated space and aviation organization is approaching."

In particular, Mayor Park said, "The status of the Space and Aviation Agency is stuck in a tedious dispute in the National Assembly," and urged, "Please hold the agenda coordination committee normally tomorrow and ensure that a conclusion is reached."

He continued, "I strongly ask the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee to promptly pass the special law and fulfill their duty as representatives of representative democracy in the National Assembly," pleading earnestly.

On the day, Mayor Park said, "The Space and Aviation Agency, which is being promoted with the support of the public, will be an inspiring journey opening a new era for the Republic of Korea," and added, "To prevent that inspiration from fading, the swift approval of the Special Act on the Space and Aviation Agency is necessary."

Meanwhile, the Special Act on the Establishment of the Space and Aviation Agency has been under review since its submission to the National Assembly last April, and it is known to be under positive consideration through the agenda coordination committee and the working-level coordination committee. The final conclusion is planned to be drawn through the agenda coordination committee on the 5th.

The agenda coordination committee listened to opinions from organizational experts, related research fields, and the industry through two rounds of deliberations.

The industry demanded the prompt establishment of the Space and Aviation Agency for the full-scale fostering of the space and aviation industry and the expansion of the aviation sector.

Lee Sangryul, Director of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, who attended as a representative of the research community, also requested that the Korea Aerospace Research Institute and the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute be transferred as subordinate organizations under the Space and Aviation Agency.
