Sancheong Expo Attracts Over 440,000 Visitors During Chuseok Holiday, a Huge Success

During the 6-day Chuseok golden holiday, the representative keyword of South Korea was the Sancheong Expo. The nation's interest in health, healing, and wellness was drawn to the Sancheong Expo, making the venue extremely crowded to the point where there was hardly any space to step.


Since its opening and passing the halfway mark, the Sancheong Expo has surpassed 790,000 visitors, rapidly emerging as the top travel destination this fall.


The Gyeongnam Sancheong World Traditional Medicine Anti-Aging Expo Organizing Committee (hereafter the Organizing Committee) announced on the 5th that 442,902 visitors nationwide attended the Sancheong Expo during the 6-day Chuseok golden holiday from September 28 to October 3.

The Organizing Committee analyzed that the synergy effect was created by hometown visitors wanting to properly celebrate the holiday after three years of COVID-19, travelers passing through Sancheong on their way home or back, visitors who heard word-of-mouth that Sancheong was the perfect family outing spot, and successful online and offline promotional strategies.


Additionally, the long holiday due to the government’s designation of a temporary holiday on October 2, the exemption of highway tolls for four days, and the consistently pleasant weather ideal for outings throughout the holiday period also contributed significantly.


The Sancheong Expo offered happiness and smiles to visitors during the holiday through various attractions such as exhibitions and cultural performances that families could easily enjoy together in the great outdoors of Donguibogam Village, as well as traditional Korean medicine-related health and healing experiences that soothe the mind and body tired from daily life.


At spots throughout Donguibogam Village such as Mureunggyo Bridge, Dongui Jeon, and Gi Rock, families, friends, and couples were busy taking the best photos of their lives while strolling, and at the food truck zone, warm scenes of people sitting closely together sharing simple snacks were also observed.


In particular, the Oriental Medicine Anti-Aging Industry Hall, where K-beauty and bio-healthcare products could be seen at a glance, and the San-en Cheong Clean Valley Premium Hall, which sells Sancheong County’s excellent agricultural specialties, enjoyed a special boom with many people purchasing Chuseok gifts.


The Organizing Committee expects even more visitors to come to the venue around early to mid-October, when the 23rd Sancheong Oriental Medicine Herb Festival will be held from the 6th to the 10th at the Sancheong IC Festival Plaza, a sub-venue of the Sancheong Expo, as well as the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, a representative festival of the nearby Jinju area, and when the Gujeolcho flowers are expected to be in full bloom.


As a result, the committee anticipates smoothly reaching the target of 1.2 million visitors and plans to perfectly prepare in the remaining period in areas such as safety, transportation, and services to welcome visitors.


A family visiting the event said, “It seems like a wonderful event where various performances and experience programs harmonize well with the great nature, something hard to experience in the city,” and added, “We came with family during the Chuseok holiday, and everyone enjoyed healing and made great memories.”


Lee Seunghwa, the co-chairman and county governor, said, “We thank all the people of South Korea who visited Sancheong, the number one healing spot in the country during the holiday period,” and added, “Through rechecking safety, transportation, and service areas, we will present the best expo of their lives to visitors in the remaining period.”
