Gwangjin District (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is hosting an online gaming tournament, the "LOL Gwangjin Championship," to determine the top youth eSports players.
The competition game is "LOL (League of Legends)," known as the most popular game among teenagers. The tournament will be held in teams, with a total of 32 teams competing in a knockout preliminary round, culminating in the final showdown at the semifinals. The preliminaries will take place on the 28th of this month, and the finals on the 4th of next month.
The final matches will be best-of-three games. All four semifinalist teams will receive trophies along with prizes such as monitors and keyboards sponsored by the Seoul Game Academy.
Notably, on the day of the finals, popular commentator Choi Young-chul and BJ Attung will join the event. Along with exciting live commentary, there will be surprise quiz events to add more fun. The tournament will be broadcast live on the Gwangjin District Office YouTube channel.
Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the 20th of this month. Any youth aged 12 or older who resides in Gwangjin District or attends a middle or high school located in the district can participate. Interested parties should form teams of five and apply via the QR code or the Game Minjok website.
This year, both the preliminary and final rounds will be held online, allowing participants to join from home, PC bangs, or any preferred location.
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho stated, "eSports, which has emerged as a single competitive discipline, helps foster teamwork among youth and promotes a healthy leisure culture. I hope this event provides students with a chance to take a break from their studies and gain enjoyable experiences."
