The 32nd National Dance Festival ... Dancers from Across the Country Gather in Changwon to Open the Future Through Dance

16 Metropolitan Cities and Provinces Representative Dance Troupes Compete Two Teams per Day

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 4th that the <32nd National Dance Festival>, a festival for dancers nationwide, will be held for the first time in 23 years under the slogan "Northeast Asia's Central City Changwon, Opening the Future with Dance" at Changwon Seongsan Art Hall and 3·15 Art Center.


The 32nd National Dance Festival is hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do, Changwon Special City, and the Korea Dance Association, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Council Korea. It will be held from the 6th to the 13th at the 3·15 Art Center (even-numbered days) and Seongsan Art Hall (odd-numbered days).

The opening ceremony will take place on the evening of the 5th at 7 PM, featuring an opening declaration and spectacular celebratory performances by the Changwon City Dance Company, the National Ballet Company, and the Seoul City Dance Company. The closing ceremony is scheduled for the 14th at 5 PM in the main theater of Seongsan Art Hall.


The National Dance Festival is the largest dance competition in Korea, where 16 representative dance companies from metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide, having passed regional preliminaries, engage in friendly competition to promote communication and harmony. The competition is divided into the "Group Division" and the "Solo & Duet" division.


The group competition starts on the 6th with Daejeon and Gangwon and continues for eight days until the 13th, with two teams performing each evening at 7 PM. The Solo & Duet competition will be held on the 11th and 12th from 4 PM, featuring eight teams each day over two days.


On the 6th, a scholarly symposium titled "NOW & NEW: Coexistence of Regional Cultural Cities and Dance," jointly hosted by the Korea Dance Association and the Korean Dance Studies Association, will be held at the international conference hall of the 3·15 Art Center, adding significance to the National Dance Festival.


Additionally, the festival will heat up with the "Local Dancer Archive Exhibition," honoring the lives and artistic achievements of late dancers who pioneered a new world of Gyeongnam dance, and the "Citizen Participation Outdoor Boom-up" fringe performances held at the outdoor gathering plaza around Seongsan Art Hall.
