Sejong Telecom (CEO Lee Byung-guk) announced on the 4th that it has been allocated frequency bands for 5G mobile communication private networks and will begin building digital innovation convergence services in earnest.
The requested frequency band is 100 MHz in the 4.7 GHz (gigahertz) band. The Ministry of Science and ICT allocated the requested frequency band to Sejong Telecom to smoothly carry out the 5G-based digital innovation project for the shipbuilding industry planned by the company.
Sejong Telecom plans to use this frequency to implement a smart communication platform for the digital transformation of the shipbuilding and marine industry based on a 5G private network across a 1 million square meter shipyard. This is the largest scale among 5G private network projects conducted so far in Korea, and the recently launched Lenovo 5G private network dedicated devices will also be distributed together.
Since 2022, Sejong Telecom has successfully built a 5G private network-based safety management platform targeting the Banwol-Sihwa Industrial Complex in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, as a specialized 5G private network company. In August this year, it succeeded for the first time in Korea in linking laptops and tablets supporting 5G private networks, establishing not only the private network but also various essentials for 5G private network business such as devices, control systems, and service solutions necessary for operation.
Sejong Telecom’s Strategic Planning Team Director Lee Kwang-mo said, “5G private networks, with strengths such as ultra-high speed, ultra-connectivity, and ultra-low latency, are very important technologies that enhance the competitiveness of B2B industries and are gaining attention not only domestically but also overseas. As a leading company in 5G private networks, Sejong Telecom will take the lead in creating a 5G-based DX ecosystem for the domestic industry based on the experience it has accumulated.”
