As winter approaches, wild boars increasingly appear near residential areas in search of food. Also, winter is the mating season for wild boars, making them more sensitive than usual, so extra caution is necessary when encountering one.

Experts advise that when encountering a wild boar on hiking trails or in urban areas, you should make full use of the boar’s poor eyesight. Above all, avoid actions like shouting or sudden movements that could startle and provoke the boar. Using an umbrella or similar object to make yourself appear larger can also be an effective way to avoid an attack.

If you actually come face to face with a wild boar, observe its movements and hide behind a rock or large tree. Without breaking eye contact, do not turn your back; instead, slowly back away to get out of the boar’s line of sight. Turning your back and running can provoke the boar further.

If the wild boar chases or attacks you, quickly climb to a higher place such as a tree, rock, or stairs to protect yourself. Additionally, if you spot a wild boar at a distance, promptly move to a safe location and avoid threatening or approaching the animal.
