Passenger Confesses to Methamphetamine Use

A story has been shared about a taxi driver's quick thinking leading to the arrest of a drug user after becoming suspicious of a rambling passenger.

On the 2nd, the National Police Agency's official YouTube channel posted a video titled "Rambling Passenger's Conversation. Even Suspicious Marks on the Arm."

According to the released video, on July 14, taxi driver Mr. A visited Haemil Police Substation in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, with female passenger Ms. B.

After entering the substation, Mr. A told the police, "Ms. B was rambling and kept changing the destination," adding, "It seemed a bit strange, so I came here."

Meanwhile, another police officer approached Ms. B to verify her personal information. When asked about her name, age, and residence, Ms. B either rambled incoherently or did not respond to the questions at all.

Observing Ms. B quietly, the police officer noticed injection marks on her arm. The officer questioned, "What are the injection marks on your arm?" After remaining silent, Ms. B eventually confessed to using methamphetamine.

The police requested cooperation from the criminal investigation team for a drug test. The arriving detectives listened to Ms. B's statement, confirmed the injection marks, and with her consent, conducted the relevant tests. As a result, Ms. B tested positive for drugs and was arrested on the spot for violating the Narcotics Control Act.

Meanwhile, it has been identified that over 10,000 drug-related offenders have been arrested annually over the past four years. According to data received by People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Sang-beom, a member of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, from the National Police Agency, the annual number of drug offenders, which remained in the 8,000 range in 2018, increased to over 10,000 since 2019.
