5,000 Won Benefit When Returning at Direct Stores
23 Tons Waste Reduction Effect from Collecting 30,000 Items
Lotte Mart and Lotte Super announced on the 3rd that they will jointly hold the 'Chuseok Gift Set Cooler Bag Collection Event' until the 22nd of this month. This is the first joint 'RE:EARTH' campaign targeting customers since the establishment of the integrated system in January. RE:EARTH is Lotte Shopping's ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) campaign brand, meaning 'Renewing the Earth Again.' Through this event, Lotte Mart and Lotte Super plan to continue their one-team approach not only by strengthening product competitiveness, which has been a focus since integration, but also from the perspective of sustainable management.
This event is conducted by customers purchasing chilled Korean beef gift sets through Lotte Mart and Lotte Super's online and offline channels, then returning the cooler bags (4-pack or 6-pack) along with the event information card included in the gift set to the customer centers of Lotte Mart and Lotte Super. Customers will receive benefits worth 5,000 KRW in return. Lotte Mart provides 5,000 L.POINTs, while Lotte Super offers an immediate 5,000 KRW discount on purchases over 50,000 KRW. These benefits can be redeemed at any nationwide Lotte Mart and Lotte Super directly operated stores. Detailed information is available on the 'Lotte Mart GO' application, Lotte Mart Mall, and at each Lotte Mart and Lotte Super store.
The collected cooler bags will be shipped back to logistics centers from each store, cleaned, and reused. Lotte Mart and Lotte Super aim to contribute to environmental protection and resource conservation by recycling livestock cooler bags that are used only during holidays and then discarded. This Chuseok, approximately 30,000 chilled cooler bags will be used, and if all are collected, about 23 tons of cooler bag waste can be prevented.
As part of their ESG management activities, Lotte Mart and Lotte Super operate various eco-friendly holiday gift sets and are strengthening their lineup. Since first introducing about 50 eco-friendly gift set items during Chuseok in 2020, Lotte Mart has expanded the selection to approximately 300 items this year.
Since 2020, fruit gift sets have reduced the use of plastic and Styrofoam and applied soybean oil printing techniques that decrease emissions by using recycled paper and other materials. The 'nanja'?a paper material used to secure fruits during delivery to prevent shaking?has also been replaced with paper-based materials.
The cooler bags collected in this event are made from R-PET (Recycled Polyester) fabric, which on average recycles 15 PET bottles per bag. The ice pack material inside the cooler bags has been changed from superabsorbent polymers to water and starch. In particular, R-PET fabric is a recycled polyester fabric made from discarded PET bottles, symbolizing a contribution to a sustainable circular economy through resource circulation.
