Defeating Taiwan to Finish Tournament with an Undefeated Victory
Glory as the First Champion Since Becoming an Official Event
'Faker' Unable to Participate Due to Cold and Flu
The Korean esports League of Legends (LoL) national team won the gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. The team defeated Taiwan 2-0 in the set score in the esports LoL finals held on the 29th at the Hangzhou Esports Center in China.
The finalists on that day were 'Zeus' Choi Woo-je, 'Kanavi' Seo Jin-hyeok, 'Chovy' Jeong Ji-hoon, 'Ruler' Park Jae-hyuk, and 'Keria' Ryu Min-seok. The most popular LoL player, 'Faker' Lee Sang-hyeok, who attracted much attention, could not participate due to poor condition caused by a cold. The team proved that Korea is the 'LoL powerhouse' by winning the championship with a perfect record, not losing a single set in five matches from the group stage to the finals.
LoL was one of the most popular events in this tournament. Despite ticket prices being over 1000 yuan (about 180,000 won), it was difficult to obtain tickets. The team became the LoL champions in this tournament, where esports was included as an official event for the first time.
Korea's medal count in esports increased to three (2 gold, 1 bronze). Gwak Jun-hyeok (KT Rolster) won the bronze medal in the FC Online event, and the day before, Kim Kwan-woo won the gold medal in Street Fighter V.
