Recommended Titles for Creating an Equal Culture
Using Abeonim and Eomeonim Instead of Jangineoreun and Jangmonim
Unifying Oehalabeoji and Oehalmeoni as Halabeoji and Halmeoni
On the 29th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family recommended using "Abeonim (father)" and "Eomeonim (mother)" instead of father-in-law and mother-in-law. On this day, the ministry announced that it would carry out the "Chuseok Holiday Family Culture Campaign" containing this content. The ministry explained, "The reason is to create an equal culture where the whole family prepares for and enjoys the Chuseok holiday together."

Additionally, the ministry recommended unifying the family titles for the child's maternal grandfather and grandmother to "Halabeoji (grandfather)" and "Halmeoni (grandmother)" instead of "oehalabeoji" and "oehalmeoni." The ministry also encouraged practicing the Chuseok holiday family culture campaign where all family members share childcare, food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, and rest together.
Meanwhile, to celebrate Chuseok, 244 family centers nationwide will hold abundant family culture programs and experiential events. These include events where parents and children participate together, such as traditional games and Hangawi sports festivals, as well as traditional culture experiences for multicultural families.
