Yu Yeong-cheol Recently Transferred to Daegu Prison
The Chuseok special meal menu at Seoul Detention Center, where some death row inmates such as Yoo Young-chul, Kang Ho-soon, and Jung Doo-young are serving their sentences, has been revealed. On Chuseok day, the 29th, the Seoul Detention Center provided a special meal of brown rice assorted gangjeong. A joint ancestral rite was also held for those who applied.
Aside from the special meal, the breakfast menu included tuna vegetable porridge, obokji (pickled radish), napa cabbage kimchi, and spoonable yogurt. Lunch consisted of dried radish greens soup, braised pork ribs, chili peppers, ssamjang (fermented soybean paste), and napa cabbage kimchi, while dinner featured ox bone soup, braised fish cake balls, seasoned seaweed flakes, and napa cabbage kimchi.
Correctional institutions typically prepare special meals for inmates on holidays such as Seollal, Chuseok, national holidays, Christmas, Buddha’s Birthday, and Correctional Day. Special meals are also planned for the upcoming October National Foundation Day and Hangul Day. Previously, during the 2017 Chuseok holiday shortly after former President Park Geun-hye was incarcerated for the state affairs manipulation scandal, songpyeon (rice cakes) were provided. In 2021, the Chuseok special meal at Anyang Prison, where former President Lee Myung-bak was serving time, included a pack of peaches and mango juice.
Some death row inmates, including Yoo Young-chul, Kang Ho-soon, and Jung Doo-young, are serving sentences at Seoul Detention Center. Yoo Young-chul, who was sentenced to death for murdering 21 people in a series of killings, was recently transferred here from Daegu Prison.
