Yeogi Eottae, 5% Decrease in Users in September
Domestic Travel Industry Also Calm
This is truly the new trend of Chuseok.
As many people chose to rest as those who visited their family homes, and the hotel staycations that were loved during every golden holiday have faded. Even during the six consecutive days of the golden holiday, not many chose to travel.

According to a recent survey conducted by Lotte Members targeting 4,000 consumers aged 20 to 50, 46% of respondents said they would visit their parents' or relatives' homes during this Chuseok holiday, the highest proportion. Following that, 30% said they would rest at home. The proportion planning domestic travel was 13.6%, and those going abroad accounted for only 8.7%.
According to the data from the big data platform Mobile Index for the third week of September, the weekly active users (WAU, combined Android + iOS users, including duplicates) of Yanolja and Yogi-Ohttae, the top two players in the accommodation app market, were 1.44 million and 1.26 million respectively.
Yanolja saw only a 4% increase in September, while Yogi-Ohttae actually decreased by 5%. In months with golden holidays, accommodation app visitors usually increase sharply, but this year showed a different pattern.
The domestic travel industry is also in a calm mood. The industry analyzes that the seemingly large increase compared to last year is because the existing demand was very low.
The industry also expressed regret, saying, "Since Chuseok holiday reservations are usually made 3 to 4 months in advance, if the designation of temporary holidays had been earlier, attracting customers would have been easier."
A survey conducted on 3,000 men and women aged 20 to 69 about their plans during the Chuseok holiday period found that 3 out of 10 respondents (33.6%) said they "still have no plans." [Image source=Getty Images]
If not visiting hometowns, what plans do people have during this Chuseok holiday? According to a survey by the polling agency PMI targeting 3,000 men and women nationwide aged 20 to 69, 3 out of 10 (33.6%) responded that they ‘still have no plans.’ Following that, the plans were: enjoying games, OTT, and TV at home (22.2%), catching up on household chores (17.4%), domestic travel (15.4%), and overseas travel (10.6%).
