First Gold Medal for South Korea's National Team in eSports Event

Kim Kwan-woo (44), known as a "veteran of fighting games" who has enjoyed fighting games for over 30 years, won the gold medal in Street Fighter V.

On the 28th, Kim Kwan-woo won the gold medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games Street Fighter V finals held at the Hangzhou Esports Center in China. Kim defeated Taiwan's Xiang Youlin with a set score of 4-3, becoming the inaugural champion of this event.


Esports was officially included as a medal event starting from this Hangzhou Asian Games, and this medal is also the first gold medal won by the Korean national team in esports.


The first esports medal for Korea at the Asian Games was won on the 27th by Kwak Jun-hyuk (23, KT Rolster) in the FC Online event. Kwak earned the bronze medal after losing 1-2 in the set score to Thailand's Patanasak in the loser's bracket final.
