Korea Airports Corporation Goes All Out to Win New Airport Project in the Dominican Republic

Korea Airports Corporation is making a final all-out effort to win the project management office (PMO) contract for the construction of a new airport in the Dominican Republic.

On the 26th (local time), Yoon Hyung-jung, President of Korea Airports Corporation, officially submitted a project proposal related to the construction project management (PMO) of the Pedernales New Airport in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Pedernales New Airport construction project is a top priority pledge of the current Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader, ahead of the presidential election scheduled for May next year. It can be seen as a key task in the large-scale tourism complex development project. Korea Airports Corporation reached a basic agreement on the new airport construction when the Vice President of the Dominican Republic visited Korea last April, and is currently conducting a feasibility study. The official submission of this proposal is essentially a mandatory procedure just before signing the final contract within this year.

At the proposal submission ceremony, President Yoon expressed his commitment to take full responsibility for the entire process of the Pedernales New Airport project?from design, ordering, construction management, to trial operation?based on the excellence and promptness of Korea’s construction project management. He discussed key issues necessary for the final contract with key figures from the Dominican Republic related to the project, including the head of the Public-Private Partnership Authority, airport authority heads, aviation authority heads, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Sigmund Freund, head of the Public-Private Partnership Authority overseeing the Pedernales development project, also mentioned, "We agree on the necessity of construction project management through Korea Airports Corporation, which possesses global airport construction capabilities, for the success of this project."

President Yoon cited the success of the PMO project for the new Chinchero Airport in Peru as an example, stating, "We have earned high trust from the client regarding Korea’s airport capabilities and driving force," and added, "We expect to achieve the final contract award through the official submission of this proposal."
