Dwelling, WACON Awarded Minister of Science and ICT Award for Excellence in Cybersecurity 2023

Dwelling Co., Ltd., a smart shelter specialist company (co-CEOs Yoonduk Lee and Junghwan Jeon), received the Minister of Science and ICT Award for Excellence in Cybersecurity at ‘WACON 2023’ held on the 26th at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel.

Dwelling was selected as a K-Cybersecurity Excellent Company through a rigorous evaluation by judges composed of security experts.

Yoonduk Lee, CEO of Dwelling, said, “We are grateful to be selected as a K-Cybersecurity Excellent Company and to receive the Minister of Science and ICT Award at WACON 2023,” adding, “Dwelling will continue to pay even more attention to security for citizen safety.”

Founded in 2015, Dwelling has been gaining industry attention with its air care solution business and is solidifying its position as a smart station specialist company by collaborating with various local governments in Korea.

Currently, Dwelling operates about 1,200 shelters, including 20 ‘Green Smart Zones’ installed in Gangnam-gu, general bus stops throughout Seoul, and smart shelters, holding approximately 4,500 advertising spaces, which is one of the largest in the country for outdoor advertising operators.

In early September, Dwelling signed an agreement with Jung-gu, Seoul, and is currently developing a ‘Jung-gu Type Smart Shelter Section’ in 20 locations including in front of Seoul City Hall, Myeongdong, Euljiro, Dongdaemun, and Yaksu Station to enhance citizen convenience.

A ‘Smart Shelter (Smart Shellter)’ is a transportation convenience facility installed around bus stops.

It is a space designed to prepare for increasingly severe heatwaves, cold waves, and fine dust, allowing residents to rest safely and comfortably while obtaining useful information for daily life.

To help citizens avoid heatwaves and cold waves, the shelters are equipped with heating and cooling systems, and they maintain safe indoor air quality through continuous air quality monitoring and purification functions that clean and sterilize against fine dust and viruses.

Additionally, large kiosks provide various information such as bus routes and real-time bus arrivals, local government activities, and real-time news ON AIR partnership services.

Other features include free Wi-Fi, smart chairs equipped with heating and mobile phone charging functions, and especially, to prepare for various dangerous situations such as indiscriminate crimes which have recently become social issues, the smart shelters serve as ‘safe zones’ by installing CCTV, emergency bells, a 24-hour remote security monitoring system, and safety equipment such as automated external defibrillators and fire extinguishers for emergency patients.

Based on this technological capability, Dwelling also received the ‘Innovative Tech Showcase Award’ at the M360 APAC, a global mobile communication technology and industry outlook conference jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) in early September.

Dwelling is also actively taking steps toward exports. In November last year, it signed an agreement with the Mongolian government, opening the door to exporting ‘K-Smart Stations.’

Furthermore, it has begun collaboration discussions with NEOM City, a big project in Saudi Arabia, and is a corporate member of the international startup organization WeGO.
