A man in his 20s who allegedly wielded a weapon against a man in his 70s after a shoulder collision has been handed over to the prosecution.
The Jungnang Police Station in Seoul announced on the 27th that they have sent Mr. A, a man in his 20s suspected of aggravated assault, to the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office under custody.
Mr. A is accused of stabbing the thigh of Mr. B, a man in his 70s, with a weapon during an argument after their shoulders collided at the Sangbong Station platform of Seoul Subway Line 7 in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, at 3:28 p.m. on the 22nd. Immediately after the incident, Mr. A fled by taking a train from the Sangbong Station platform on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line but was apprehended by the police at his home in Guri City, Gyeonggi Province, at around 6:35 p.m., three hours later.
It was determined that Mr. A used a tool with a short blade at the tip, typically used for opening mail, as the weapon. During police questioning, Mr. A stated, "I usually carry a knife to cut Post-it notes when reading books."
Based on Mr. A's statement that "we got into a fight and I impulsively committed the crime out of anger," the police suspect that this incident is not a random or senseless crime (a crime without a specific motive).
