Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 27th that it was selected as an outstanding institution and received a commendation award in the ‘2023 Local Statistics Policy Utilization Best Practices’ contest held on the 25th.
The ‘Local Statistics Best Practices Contest’ is conducted to discover and reward outstanding institutions that utilize local statistics in policy-making, thereby raising awareness of the importance of local statistics. It has been held annually since 2019, targeting metropolitan and basic local governments, and is hosted by the Gyeongin Regional Statistics Office.
In 2021, the statistical analysis of the social survey in Eunpyeong-gu revealed the need to revitalize the resident participation budgeting system and pointed out that the collection of opinions during the budgeting process was merely formal. To address these shortcomings, Eunpyeong-gu developed and introduced ‘Chamyeoui Keunsup,’ an online resident participation platform aimed at promoting active resident involvement, which was selected as a best practice.
‘Chamyeoui Keunsup’ is an online participation platform where residents involved in the resident participation budgeting system can propose projects, discuss, and vote in real time.
It is the first autonomous district in Seoul to have a standalone domain, allows easy registration through SNS accounts, and shares information on the execution of selected projects as well as various news related to resident participation activities, contributing to the expansion of resident participation.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “Based on the data revealed through local statistics analysis, we were able to implement projects necessary for residents and the community, achieving high satisfaction and the honor of receiving an award. We will continue to do our best to implement resident-tailored policies utilizing local statistics in the future.”
