According to the legal community on the 27th, KFTA and YK Olheum held a signing ceremony on the 25th and agreed on the following: ▲ legal consultations to restore the teaching rights of KFTA members ▲ legal advice on legislative and legal interpretation requests from KFTA ▲ support for legal education targeting students and teachers ▲ promotion and commissioning of joint research related to teaching rights and law (including joint seminars). The ceremony was attended by Jeong Seong-guk, president of KFTA, Kim Yong-tae, chairman of YK Olheum, and Kang Kyung-hoon, lead attorney of law firm YK.
Going forward, teachers who have been harmed by infringements on their teaching rights by students, parents, or others can request legal advice on teaching rights violations through KFTA and YK Olheum. Twelve attorneys affiliated with law firm YK will provide specialized support and take charge of these cases. Legal advice will be provided free of charge, and they will actively cooperate by attending investigations conducted by investigative agencies to protect teaching rights. Teachers in provincial areas will also be able to receive prompt legal services based on the response system of YK Olheum and law firm YK’s 25 branch offices nationwide.
Olheum is centered around Chairman Kim, who served as the chairperson of the 20th National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee, and includes specialized attorneys from various fields affiliated with law firm YK. It has consistently carried out public interest activities aimed at enhancing the rights and interests of vulnerable and marginalized groups.
Representatives from the Korea Federation of Teachers' Associations, YK Law Firm, and YK Public Interest Corporation Olheum are posing for a commemorative photo after signing a legal advisory service agreement (MOU) for teachers affected by violations of teachers' rights. President Jeong stated, "The current educational environment is facing many difficulties due to severe malicious complaints and indiscriminate reports of child abuse," adding, "The professional legal support from law firm YK can be a great help to teachers, and through this MOU, we expect it to play a significant role in restoring teaching rights and normalizing public education."
Chairman Kim said, "Today, as infringements on teachers’ rights have become a serious social issue, there is a lack of mechanisms to protect teachers’ rights and fundamental rights, causing many teachers to suffer," and added, "Through this MOU, we want to restore the diminished status of teachers and actively assist them so they do not have to live in harsh anxiety or fear. We will do our best to contribute to the normalization of teaching rights."
