Busan Gijang-gun successfully concluded the ‘2023 U-15 National Youth Baseball Tournament’ co-hosted with the Korea Baseball Softball Association.
The tournament was held from the 13th to the 25th at Gijang-Hyundai Dream Ballpark and Jangancheon Baseball Stadium, with a total of 129 teams and over 4,000 participants.
The tournament was operated in three leagues named after Gijang-gun’s landmarks: Osiria, Haepalanggil, and Ahopsansup. The league champions were Daewon Middle School from Gyeonggi in the Osiria League, Jayang Middle School from Seoul in the Haepalanggil League, and Gaeseong Middle School SBC from Busan in the Ahopsansup League, respectively.
As the largest youth baseball tournament nationwide, the event attracted great attention, with every game filled with the passionate spirit of young baseball hopefuls from across the country, creating an exciting competitive atmosphere.
Jeong Jong-bok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, said, “I am pleased that the national youth baseball tournament successfully concluded as an event enjoyed by all baseball enthusiasts,” adding, “We will make every effort to prepare for the 2024 U-15 National Youth Baseball Tournament so that the players’ efforts can shine.”
The Gijang Baseball Theme Park, where the tournament was held, currently operates four standard baseball fields, one little league field, and one softball field. A youth hostel (scheduled for 2026) and the Korea Baseball Hall of Fame (scheduled for 2026) will be constructed sequentially.
The park has also hosted world and national level baseball tournaments such as the U-18 World Youth Baseball Championship and the U-15 National Youth Baseball Tournament, and is gaining attention as a training ground for professional and amateur baseball teams.
