Korea Startup Forum Issues Statement and Welcomes
The startup industry has praised the Ministry of Justice's decision to cancel the disciplinary actions against 'Rotok' lawyers, saying it "has opened the door to expanding into the global legal tech market." On the 26th, the Korea Startup Forum (Kospo) issued a statement regarding the Ministry of Justice's disciplinary committee's complete cancellation of the Korea Bar Association's (hereafter Bar Association) disciplinary decisions against lawyers using the legal platform.
The Ministry of Justice's disciplinary committee recognized the grounds for the objections filed by 123 lawyers who were disciplined by the Bar Association for advertising on the legal platform Rotok, and canceled the disciplinary decisions at the meeting held that day. Regarding this, Kospo said, "Although it is regrettable that nine months have already passed since the lawyers filed their objections in December last year," it added, "it is a meaningful decision in that lawyers can now freely meet clients, freed from the shackles of discipline."
Kospo continued, "With the Ministry of Justice's decision, the path has finally opened for legal tech startups attempting to innovate legal services to expand into the global legal tech market," adding, "It also sends a message of hope to many startups facing conflicts with existing industries and vested interests that they can overcome the current difficulties."
They also forecast that the legal market will undergo new changes by combining with advanced technology. Kospo stated, "Lawyers will be able to create more added value with the same time and effort, and consumers will enjoy higher-quality judicial services and make more rational choices," adding, "We expect legal tech companies to fully unleash their long-suppressed potential, compete confidently in the global market, and be recognized for their innovation."
