Singer and actor Rain has been accused of embezzling 8.5 billion KRW from a real estate transaction.
According to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul on the 26th, a complaint has been filed against Rain for fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, and an investigation is underway. Last month, the complainant submitted the complaint to the Yongsan Police Station, and it has now been transferred to the Gangnam Police Station.
The complainant claims that Rain embezzled 8.5 billion KRW from the real estate transaction. The deal involved exchanging a building in Namyang New Town, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province owned by the complainant, for Rain’s residence in Itaewon. However, Rain allegedly refused to show the property citing privacy concerns and sent photos that were completely different from the actual property.
Rain Company stated on its website the previous day, "The buyer’s claims are completely false. This is merely an excessive attempt to tarnish the seller’s reputation simply because they are a celebrity," adding, "Even by looking at official documents such as the registry or building ledger provided or verified during real estate transactions, the buyer’s claims do not hold. The exterior of the house can be confirmed just by viewing it from outside. Also, the exterior can be seen by simply entering the address online."
