Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that County Governor Lee Sang-ik participated on the 25th in a joint response to the relocation of non-innovative and population-declining cities by public institutions and issued a joint statement urging the revision of the 'Special Act on Innovation Cities.'
Currently, the 'Special Act on the Creation and Development of Innovation Cities' stipulates that relocating public institutions should, in principle, move to innovation cities.
Non-innovative cities like Hampyeong-gun face limited opportunities for public institution relocation, causing regional development imbalances.
The joint statement released that day called for the revision of the special act to allow public institutions to relocate to non-innovative cities as well, eliminating regional discrimination and enabling both innovation and non-innovation cities to contribute together to national balanced development.
Subsequently, Hampyeong-gun plans to actively attract public institutions related to the second phase of local public institution relocation and establish institutional foundations for efficient administrative and financial support by enacting relocation support ordinances in the future.
Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “If the Special Act on Innovation Cities is revised, we will select and attract public institutions suited to our county’s industries and circumstances and make every effort to overcome the crisis of regional extinction.”
Meanwhile, Hampyeong-gun is doing its best to explore various measures to overcome the population extinction crisis, including recently jointly announcing the ‘Hampyeong Future Regional Development Vision,’ a large-scale project worth 1.7 trillion won, with Jeollanam-do.
